MECHANIC JOB DESCRIPTION

Overview
Ad-hoc and as-needed body, mechanical, and maintenance work on our growing fleet of party buses as either a W-2 employee or 1099 contractor. Work comfortably in our indoor concrete-floor workshops located in Davenport and Iowa City, IA.

TDF Enterprises, LLC, an Iowa limited-liability company, operates limousine buses (party buses) under multiple brands. Founded in 2009, the company today operates from Davenport, Iowa and Tiffin, Iowa.

Fleet Description
• One 1995 International Bluebird repurposed conventional school bus with DT466 7.6L diesel engine, Allison 2000 automatic transmission, and air brakes
• One 2001 International AMTRAN repurposed conventional school bus with DT466e 7.6L diesel engine, Allison AT545, automatic transmission, and air brakes
• One 2002 International AMTRAN repurposed conventional school bus with T444e 7.3L diesel engine, Allison AT545 automatic transmission, and air brakes
• Multiple 2006-2007 IC Corp (International) CE300 repurposed conventional school buses with DT466e 7.6L diesel engines, Allison 2000 automatic transmissions, and air brakes
• Multiple 2005 IC Corp (International) RE300 “flat-nose pusher” rear-engine repurposed school buses with DT466e 7.6L engines, Allison 3000 automatic transmissions, and air brakes

Primary Responsibilities
• Perform and sign-off on annual DOT inspections per FMCSA regulations
• Perform routine preventative maintenance
• Perform ad-hoc inspections to identify necessary repairs
• Diagnose issues from driver observations
• Identify parts required and perform mechanical repairs
• Reports to: Owners and managers
• Supervises: None

Required Qualifications
• Must meet CMV Inspector Qualifications under Section § 396.19 of FMCSA Regulations

  1. Understand the inspection criteria set forth in part 393 and appendix G of this subchapter and can identify defective components;
  2. Are knowledgeable of and have mastered the methods, procedures, tools and equipment used when performing an inspection; and
  3. Are capable of performing an inspection by reason of experience, training, or both as follows:
    1. Successfully completed a Federal-or State-sponsored training program or have a certificate from a State or Canadian Province that qualifies the individuals to perform commercial motor vehicle safety inspections, or
    2. Have a combination of training or experience totaling at least 1 year. Such training or experience may consist of:
    3. Participation in a commercial motor vehicle manufacturer-sponsored training program or similar commercial training program designed to train students in commercial motor vehicle operation and maintenance;
      1. Experience as a mechanic or inspector in a motor carrier or intermodal equipment maintenance program;
      2. Experience as a mechanic or inspector in commercial motor vehicle maintenance at a commercial garage, fleet leasing company, or similar facility; or
      3. Experience as a commercial motor vehicle inspector for a State, Provincial or Federal government.

• Must meet CMV Brake Inspector Qualifications under Section § 396.25 of FMCSA Regulations

  1. Understands the brake service or inspection task to be accomplished and can perform that task; and
  2. Is knowledgeable of and has mastered the methods, procedures, tools and equipment used when performing an assigned brake service or inspection task; and
  3. Is capable of performing the assigned brake service or inspection by reason of experience, training, or both as follows:
    1. Has successfully completed an apprenticeship program sponsored by a State, a Canadian Province, a Federal agency or a labor union, or a training program approved by a State, Provincial or Federal agency, or has a certificate from a State or Canadian Province that qualifies the person to perform the assigned brake service or inspection task (including passage of Commercial Driver’s License air brake tests in the case of a brake inspection); or
    2. Has brake-related training or experience or a combination thereof totaling at least one year. Such training or experience may consist of:
      1. Participation in a training program sponsored by a brake or vehicle manufacturer or similar commercial training program designed to train students in brake maintenance or inspection similar to the assigned brake service or inspection tasks; or
      2. Experience performing brake maintenance or inspection similar to the assigned brake service or inspection task in a motor carrier or intermodal equipment provider maintenance program; or
      3. Experience performing brake maintenance or inspection similar to the assigned brake service or inspection task at a commercial garage, fleet leasing company, or similar facility.

Beneficial Qualifications
• Experience with Navistar DT466, T444e, and MaxxForce DT466 diesel engines a plus
• Experience with Allison automatic transmissions a plus
• Experience with automotive air-conditioning systems a plus
• Current Class A or B CDL with air-brake endorsement for test drives a plus
• Ability to do simple body work and welding a plus
• Ability to provide own tools for work (our shops maintain basic and common tools) a plus

Compensation
• Commensurate with experience
• Emergency after-hours work negotiable
